Squid's Rod Shop offers Dakota Digital instrument systems for first-generation Ford Mustangs and later Fox Body Mustangs. Our current catalog includes VHX analog-style gauges for 1965-1966, 1967-1968, 1969-1970, 1971-1973, 1979-1986, 1987-1989, and 1990-1993 Mustangs, along with a Series III digital instrument system for 1969-1970 models. Available configurations and features vary by vehicle application.

Dakota Digital Instrument Systems

VHX Analog Instrument Systems: Dakota Digital VHX gauges combine traditional analog instrumentation with modern electronic accuracy and functionality. Features include precision stepper-motor movements, fully illuminated needles, backlit gauge faces, and integrated LCD message centers. These systems provide modern speedometer, tachometer, oil pressure, water temperature, fuel level, and voltage monitoring while maintaining a classic dashboard appearance.

Additional VHX features include electronic speedometer calibration, odometer and trip information, configurable warning indicators, and performance measurements such as 0-60 MPH timing and high-speed recall. Available functions and display configurations vary by instrument system and installed accessories.

Series III Digital Instrument Systems: Dakota Digital Series III instrumentation provides comprehensive vehicle information through high-brightness vacuum fluorescent displays. Our catalog includes the VFD3-69M digital instrument system for 1969-1970 Ford Mustangs, offering an alternative to traditional analog gauges for custom and performance-oriented builds.

Many Dakota Digital Mustang instrument systems are designed to fit original-style dashboard openings and instrument bezels. However, fitment varies by model year and interior configuration. For example, the 1965-1966 VHX Mustang system is designed for 1965 GT and Pony interior applications and 1966 Mustangs. Instrument bezels may be sold separately, and certain installations require additional sensors, adapters, or interface modules.
