Squid's Rod Shop offers Tanks, Inc. replacement fuel tanks for Chevrolet and GMC pickup applications from 1949 through 1981. Our current catalog includes original-style steel fuel tanks for Advance Design, Task Force, C10, and C/K Series trucks, including specific configurations for different model years, fuel tank venting arrangements, and short-bed or long-bed applications.
Chevrolet & GMC Truck Fuel Tank Applications
1949-1954 Chevy & GMC Pickup (Part #TM55A): An 18-gallon replacement fuel tank constructed from die-stamped galvanized steel with a silver-gray finish. Designed for compatible Chevrolet and GMC pickups, this tank includes a drain plug and requires a fuel-level sending unit incorporating a fuel pickup tube.
1955-1959 Chevy & GMC Pickup (Part #TM55B): An 18-gallon galvanized steel replacement fuel tank for compatible Chevrolet and GMC trucks. Features include original-style construction, a protective silver-gray finish, and a drain plug. A compatible sending unit with an integrated fuel pickup tube is required.
1960-1966 Chevy Pickup (Part #C10-6066): An 18-gallon replacement tank designed to fit behind the seat in the original fuel tank location. Manufactured from die-stamped galvanized steel with a silver-gray finish, this tank provides an original-style replacement for compatible Chevrolet pickup applications.
1967-1970 Chevy & GMC Pickup (Part #TM49A): A 20-gallon galvanized steel replacement fuel tank designed for the original in-cab tank location. This configuration is manufactured without the additional tank vent provisions found on certain later applications.
1970-1972 Chevy & GMC Pickup (Part #TM49B): A 20-gallon galvanized steel replacement tank featuring the vented configuration used on compatible Chevrolet and GMC pickup applications. Because 1970 model-year applications overlap between the vented and non-vented tank designs, the original fuel tank and venting arrangement should be verified before ordering.
1973-1981 Chevy & GMC Long-Bed Pickup (Part #TM1A): A 20-gallon replacement fuel tank designed for compatible C/K Series pickups equipped with an 8-foot bed. The tank features die-stamped galvanized steel construction, a silver-gray finish, and includes a fuel sender lock ring and O-ring gasket.
1973-1981 Chevy & GMC Short-Bed Pickup (Part #TM11-A): A 16-gallon replacement fuel tank for compatible C/K Series trucks equipped with a 6-foot bed and a tank mounted ahead of the rear axle. This steel tank includes a sender lock ring and O-ring gasket and uses a 1-1/4-inch filler pipe arrangement.
Replacement Fuel Tank Features
Tanks, Inc. manufactures replacement fuel tanks designed to provide reliable fuel storage and compatibility with classic Chevrolet and GMC pickups. Depending on the selected application, features include:
- Die-stamped steel construction with corrosion-resistant coatings.
- Original-style mounting dimensions for compatible truck applications.
- Fuel capacities ranging from 16 to 20 gallons.
- Model-specific filler neck, fuel pickup, and venting arrangements.
- Compatibility with appropriately selected factory-style or aftermarket fuel-level sending units.
- Drain plugs on selected earlier truck applications.
- Replacement fuel tanks for both in-cab and frame-mounted configurations.
- Short-bed and long-bed tank options for 1973-1981 Chevrolet and GMC pickups.
Specifications, included hardware, and installation requirements vary by part number. Some applications require additional filler neck components, mounting straps, fuel-level sending units, or connecting hoses that may be sold separately.
Restoration & EFI Conversion Considerations
For traditional restorations, a properly matched replacement fuel tank provides a practical solution for replacing an original tank affected by rust, contamination, leaks, or physical damage.
For custom trucks and modern restomods, additional fuel system modifications may be necessary when converting from a carbureted engine to electronic fuel injection. Conventional replacement tanks are not automatically compatible with in-tank high-pressure electric fuel pumps or modern EFI fuel delivery requirements.
Tanks, Inc. also manufactures EFI-ready fuel tanks and alternative frame-mounted configurations for selected Chevrolet and GMC pickups. These options can provide improved fuel delivery integration and allow relocation of the fuel tank when a custom build requires additional interior space or a different fuel system arrangement.
When planning an LS, LT, or other modern engine conversion, fuel tank selection should be coordinated with fuel pump capacity, fuel pressure regulation, supply and return plumbing, filtration, tank venting, and engine management requirements.
